What is a TXT Record?

Carries text information such as verification data or an email policy.

A service may ask you to publish a TXT value at a specific name to verify domain ownership or publish an email policy. Preserve the name and text supplied by the provider, save the record and query that exact name with the TXT type. Check whether the requested record belongs at the root name or at a subdomain.

Example

example.com. 3600 IN TXT "service-verification=example-token" — This is an illustrative verification value, not a working token.

Common issue

Combining independent TXT records into one text value can break verification. Multiple text segments within a single TXT record may be displayed together; those segments are different from separate records.
