What is an A Record?

Specifies the IPv4 address of a domain.

To connect a name to your server over IPv4, choose the A record type in your DNS panel. Enter the record name, such as @ for the root name or www for a subdomain, using the format required by your provider. Set the value to the public IPv4 address of your server, choose a TTL and save. Then query that name as an A record across resolvers. The IP address below is for documentation only.

Example

example.com. 3600 IN A 192.0.2.10

Common issue

Adding the record under the wrong name or leaving an old server address can send connections to the wrong destination. Changing A does not change AAAA; check that record separately for visitors using IPv6.
