What is an AAAA Record?

Specifies the IPv6 address of a domain.

For a server offering IPv6 connectivity, create an AAAA record with the required name and the public IPv6 address of the server. After saving, check AAAA separately from A. The server must also accept web connections at that IPv6 address; publishing the record alone does not configure the service.

Example

example.com. 3600 IN AAAA 2001:db8::10 — The IPv6 address is for documentation; use your own server address in a real setup.

Common issue

A correct A record alongside an old or unreachable AAAA record can affect some visitors. Review an unused IPv6 address together with the server configuration.
