What is RDAP?

A protocol that provides registration information as structured JSON over HTTPS.

RDAP provides structured registration information about domains and internet number resources over HTTPS. Domain lookups may return statuses, event dates and related organizations. When reviewing registration information in the WHOIS / RDAP tool, consider which details the provider publishes.

Example

In an illustrative RDAP response, an events list can carry registration or expiration events, while a status list carries registration statuses.

Common issue

A structured response does not make every personal field public. Missing or redacted registrant information does not by itself show that a domain is unused or that registration data is incorrect.
