What is WHOIS?
The traditional protocol for querying domain registration information.
A registration lookup can help you review the registrar, domain status and dates published by the provider. These details come from the registration system, a different source from DNS answers. Enter a domain in the WHOIS / RDAP tool and read the available fields alongside the stated data source.
Example
A registration lookup for example.com may contain a registrar name, status codes and registration or expiry dates. These are example field types, not a live lookup result.
Common issue
Hidden personal or contact fields do not mean a domain has no owner. A registration lookup also does not verify DNS records or show whether the website is online.
